Introduction

The National Monument is a statue built to commemorate the soldiers who died in the World War II and the Malayan emergency. It is located near the Malaysian Parliament Building in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It is the tallest freestanding bronze sculpture in the world. Every year on the National Memorial Day on August 31, Malaysia's Supreme Head of State, Prime Minister, and military and police leaders come here to present wreaths and pay tribute to the heroes who have passed away. The National Monument covers an area of 48,562 square feet, divided into 4 areas, namely, the war memorial column, the hero memorial, the fountain and the cloister.
