Introduction
Liu Man Shek Tong Ancestral Hall is located between Menkou Village and Zhongxin Village, Shuixiang, Shangshui, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is the largest ancestral hall of the Liao ethnic group in Sheung Shui. It was built in the 16th year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1751) and was rebuilt in the 17th year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. According to legend, Liao Gang, the distant ancestor of the Liao family, and his four sons served as high-ranking officials in the Northern Song Dynasty. Each paid 2,000 shi each, combined with 10,000 shi. Later generations named the ancestral hall Liao Wanshitang as a memorial.
Liu Man Shek Tong Church was opened as Fengxi Primary School in 1932, and it was moved to a new site in Waidong (Jockey Club Road, Sheung Shui) in 1974. In 1983, a reconstruction team was formed by members of the Liao ethnic group, the North District Administrative Office, the Antiquities and Monuments Office and other government departments.
