Introduction

九龍寨城公園座落於本港最具歷史性的地點之一，原址為九龍寨城。一九八七年，香港政府與中國政府達成清拆寨城的協議，並於原址興建公園。而公園將盡量保留寨城一些原有的建築物及特色。清拆工程於一九九四年四月完成。在清拆期間，一些寨城的遺跡被古物古蹟辦事處發掘出來，並揉合在公園的設計中或予以保存成為展品，以供遊人欣賞。整個發掘工作的最大收穫是兩塊於寨城南門（此乃寨城的正門）出土的花崗岩石額，它們分別刻有「南門」及「九龍寨城」字樣。其他的遺跡還包括原來寨城城牆殘存的牆基、東南兩門的牆基、一條沿寨城內牆走的排水溝及旁邊的石板街。其餘的文物如三座炮、石樑、對聯及柱礎等亦被一一保留下來。
