Introduction
The Muslim halal chapel was built in 1849 and was rebuilt in 1915. It is the first mosque in Hong Kong, also commonly known as the "Mosque". The mosque is rectangular in shape and retains the original minaret. The main entrance is arched and surrounded by arched windows rich in Arabic colors. There are about 220,000 Muslims in Hong Kong, of which 30,000 are Chinese and 120,000 are Indonesians. The rest are non-Chinese born in Hong Kong, as well as believers from Pakistan, India, Malaysia, the Middle East and African countries.
The Muslim Muslim Chapel in Central does not have barrier-free facilities at all, and wheelchair users are not recommended to go alone. From MTR Central Station Exit C, walk along Des Voeux Road Central towards Sheung Wan to Jubilee Street, then follow the Central to Mid-Levels escalator down to the junction of Shelley Street and Robinson Road.
